I am Peggy Herring, the Founder of Parenting Partners of Alameda. I love working with parents and children, and I believe that how we care for our children matters.
I am a parent/infant coach, a former professional nanny, and a mother and grandmother. I have thirty-nine years of parenting and childcare experience, including working with twins, newborns, and children in multi-cultural families. I was also a parent volunteer for a number of years with the Alameda Unified School District in Alameda, CA and was an EMT (emergency medical technician) in Oakland, CA.
I am passionate about helping new families develop their caregiving plan as it works in their world. I am a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (www.naeyc.org). I am a voracious reader of psychology and human development. I completed the RIE® Foundations: Theory and Observation TM (www.rie.org) course of studies and am now doing my dream job of sharing this work with new families and caregivers so they can create their safe, secure, and loving family culture.
Parents want their child to have a stable family life so that their child can grow up to be an emotionally balanced, productive, and independent citizen. How do you get there? Books and information overload aren’t working so well. Not all of us have a village to help us when we bring our new baby home. However, we do have Magda Gerber’s Educaring® Approach, something wonderful I wished I had known about when I was a new mother.
Looking back to my days of being a young mother, I would have benefitted greatly from supportive coaching and modeling of RIE ®. It would have helped me confidently and calmly address my everyday parenting issues. For sure I would not have put my babies in walkers (so 70s!).
Being a parent is a life-long learning journey and practice. I am still modeling behavior for my adult children.
How we care for our babies matters. I love to create an environment of “yes.” Yes to free play. Yes to exploration and challenge. Yes to observing and seeing how capable your baby is. I love to encourage babies and toddlers in imaginative play and joy in nature. I am always inspired to see parents and their babies in the flow of life, both mutually benefitting from each other and their relationship, as baby is learning, growing, discovering, and yes, even struggling. Our babies and toddlers are constantly challenging themselves, enjoying the mastery of new tasks and problem-solving.
